Review: Prime Minister & I (총리와 나)

Don’t you have those dramas that got you excited every week but left you wide mouthed with disbelief at the end. 2013 had two such dramas one was Mirae’s Choice/Marry him if u dare and the other was Prime Minister & I

PM & I 1

Genre:

Comedy, Romance

Synopsis:

Nam Da Jeong played by Yoona is a reporter of a no-name newspaper. Kwon Yul played by Lee Bum Soo is the Prime Minister of South Korea. Due to some clichéd situations they both enter a contract wedding. Kwon Yul‘s wife died few years back in a road accident. Uri, Nara and Manse are his three children. How Yoona does her role as the Prime Minister’s Wife and how the children accept her and how eventually the contract marriage turns to real love is what this drama tells.

The Plus Factor:

Contract marriage is one term all k-drama fans would know. It is one card often used in dramaland but every time has a new effect depending on the way it is handled. This drama handled it well. I loved the interactions between the children and Da Jeong. It was heartwarming and cute.

PM & I 2

The Minus Factor:

The ending as I said before was unbelievable in a bad way. It did show that the Prime Minister and Da Jeong got together but it was lacking something.  They made unnecessary twists and took wrong routes. They did not show few crucial scenes and left it to our imagination.

My Rating

It would have easily got an 8 or 9 if not for the end. Thanks to that unbelievable end giving it a

7/10

PM & I 3

Review: Master’s Sun (주군의 태양)

This was one of the best dramas of 2013. After a flop show by the Hong Sisters in Big they made a wonderful comeback through Master’s Sun.

Genre:

Comedy, Romance, Fantasy

 Synopsis:

Tae Gong Shil, fondly called Taeyang played by Gong Hyo Jin started seeing ghosts after a road accident.  As the usual ghost-seeing characters she is pestered by ghosts asking her to fulfill their wishes. On one such detour to help a grandma ghost she meets our hero Joo Joong Won a.k.a Joogun played by So Ji Sub. He is the CEO of Kingdom Group but like our usual drama heroes is cold-hearted but he has this strange power that whenever our heroine touches him the ghosts around her vanish. Hence she decides to stick to him to escape from the pestering ghosts. Together they deal with many ghosts, solve their problems and help them rest in peace. Joong Won is dealing with a trauma due to a kidnapping incident during his school days. The culprit behind this kidnapping took a diamond necklace as a ransom and Joong Won is determined to get it back with the help of Taeyang . Does he solve the mystery behind his kidnapping 15 years back and in the process how he falls in love with our heroine is what this story tells.

The Plus Factor:

I liked the ghost of the week concept. It was like story within the main story. Short but meaningful. Joogun’s character development was also great. Being the one with tightly shut heart, the slow process of opening his heart to a clumsy girl like Taeyang was heart-warming. I was sort of cheering for him from day one. The supporting role Tae Yi Ryung played by Kim Yoo Ri was a cute character. The usual supporting roles tend to disrupt the relationship between the leads but she was trying to get them together though for her own selfish reasons it was good to see a difference for once. The male supporting role played by Seo In Guk too was good to see. As a big fan of him since Reply 1997 days was great to see him play a handsome security chief. And about the OST I personally loved all the songs. Most favourite would be Yoon Mirae’s Touch Love. Touch love is basically the OST of the year. Also loved Last One by Yoomi.

The Minus Factor:

In the last few episodes we went on a circle and few drama clichés like the heroine going abroad and then coming back. Other than that it was perfect

My Rating

A minus one for the unnecessary cliche.
